Users can easily populate their personal
dictionaries from, and when they encounter new words in, the
MapSpeller™ Potential Errors dialog. However, they may be
interested in copying and pasting the contents of other software personal
dictionaries to their MapSpeller equivalent.
Two methods are illustrated here. The first one is recommended, as it
doesn't present any risk of corrupting MapSpeller personal dictionaries.
Let's assume a user with a Windows login name of XYZ and that the user's
Microsoft Word personal dictionary is located:
- In Windows 7 or Vista in: C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Proof\CUSTOM.DIC
- In Windows XP in: C:\Documents and Settings\XYZ\Application
Data\Microsoft\Proof\CUSTOM.DIC
The first method consists in:
- Placing all the content of the Microsoft Word file on the
Windows clipboard (CTRL+A, then CTRL+C) using Windows Notepad.
- Inserting a layout annotation (also called text graphic) on ArcMap layout page
- Accessing the annotation's Property dialog
- Pasting the content of the clipboard in the dialog (CTRL+V)
- Running the MapSpeller spell-checker
- Adding the words to the personal dictionary from Potential
Errors
dialog which displays all the words not already in any of the active
MapSpeller dictionaries or Locationaries.
